Airtel launches pan-India 4G services in 296 towns

After running 4G trails in several cities for the past few months, Airtel today launched its 4G services in 296 towns across India. Airtel launched its 4G TDD-LTE services in Kolkata back in 2012 and recently expanded its roll out to several cities. Airtel also offers integrated 4G services in some circles like Delhi NCR that uses both 2300MHz TDD-LTE (band 40) and 1800MHz FDD-LTE (band 3). Airtel 4G is available on mobile phones, dongles, 4G hotspots and Wi-Fi dongles in most cities.
Airtel had been running 4G trails in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Mangalore, Mysore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Vellore, Hubli, Dharwad, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Tumkur, Udupi, Manipal and Shillong for the past few months to hear customer’s feedback to improve their 4G network.
Airtel also launched Wynk Movies app that offers content from different channels such as EROS NOW, HOOQ, Sony LIV, Youtube and Dailymotion. The app is now live for Android and will be available for iOS soon. Airtel 4G is available at 3G rates currently, which starts at Rs. 25.
Airtel also introduced a new range of Infinity Plans starting Rs. 999 with unlimited voice calls, including roaming on mobile, 4G data and access to Wynk Movies and Wynk Music. Rs. 999 plan offers 3GB of data, Rs. 1749 plan offers 5GB of data, Rs. 2249 plan offers 7GB of data and Rs. 3249 plan offers 15GB of data. These plans are valid for 28 days for pre-paid and per billing cycle for post-paid customers.
It introduced Flexpage, an automated platform that allows customers to track their data usage and get real time usage alerts. This also lets customers upgrade their mobile plan on the go, as and when they exhaust their monthly data quota. Airtel customers can head to their nearest Airtel Store and switch to a 4G SIM or head to airtel.in/4g to find details about 4G availability in your area.
At the launch, Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO, Bharti Airtel (India & South Asia) said:
At Airtel, the customer is at the heart of everything we do and therefore we first opened our 4G network to some of them for their valuable feedback. With the help of the feedback received from the beta launches, we have now built India’s first commercial 4G network that will make high speed mobile broadband a reality. The national roll-out today is another small step in our journey to be the most innovative and customer focused brand.
We also believe that an open platform is critical to developing an ecosystem that nurtures innovation and enabling our consumers to access a myriad set of possibilities on their mobile phones. Our 4G network is therefore built on an open partner ecosystem model that brings together the best in the industry and introduces the market to these never before experiences. Together with our network and device partners, we have enabled a deeper proliferation of 4G in the country and I take this opportunity to thank them for working with us to introduce India to the amazing 4G experience.
