Apple has denied rumors about launching its own wireless service in the US and Europe. The move comes from the company after a Business Insider report claimed that it is testing a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) service.
The BI report stated that the service from Apple which is similar to Google’s Project Fi would allow customers to pay the company directly for data, calls and texts, while automatically switching between carriers to give users the best service. Instead of paying a major cellular carrier directly, a customer would be charged by Apple for data allotment each month, the report stated. It also added that Apple had already begun testing of such a service in the United States and was working to finalize deals that would bring it to Europe.
“We have not discussed nor do we have any plans to launch an MVNO,” said an Apple spokeswoman in a statement. Apple has already been experimenting with SIM cards that can quickly switch between carriers. It introduced a SIM card for the latest iPads that works across different cellular networks so customers don’t have to choose a carrier at the time of BUYING a device.
