Pawan Hans chopper with 3 on board goes missing after take off


NEW DELHI:A Pawan Hans chopper carrying deputy commissioner of Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, Kamlesh Joshi and two pilots have been reported missing in mid-air while flying from Longding to Changlang in the easternmost part of the state bordering Myanmar. 

The helicopter took off from Khonsa in Tirap district at around 10.20 am and was flying towards Changlang. 

The Assam Rifles, which guards the area, have immediately launched a search operation on the ground while Pawan Hans on its own is carrying out an aerial survey. Locals of Deomali area have also joined the search operation. 

A source said that the GPS had tracked the last position of the chopper at Deomali, which is located between Khonsa and Longding. 

Sources said that the weather in the region turned worse and coupled with the hilly terrain, flying in this area is very difficult.
