Study says "Most dengue cases in 15-45 age group"

An analysis conducted by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation of dengue cases reported till August 2014 suggests that of the 65% of the cases — 14 of total 22 patients — were in the age group of 15 to 45 years. This shows that offices and workplaces were major spots for mosquito breeding.

This year, 53 cases have already been reported — 20 under North Corporation, 15 under South Corporation and 10 cases under East Corporation.

The East Corporation commissioner, Amit Yadav, has appealed to the administrative heads of all the government and autonomous bodies, offices, education institutions, commercial establishments, market associations and citizens to initiate suitable steps to prevent mosquito breeding.

"This analysis has helped us figure out that we need to focus more on workplaces apart from visiting houses. We have instructed our officials to check the breeding of mosquito and penalize defaulters," said Yadav.

The officials have also been asked to visit places like construction sites, offices and bus depots.

The commissioner has advised all the citizens to take preventive measures like covering water tanks and cleaning coolers. and should be mopped clean and kept dry, collection of stagnant water should not be allowed and empty containers, drums, pots and old tyres should not be left in the open.

"The nodal officers from government offices may contact zonal deputy health officers for obtaining temephos granules. These granules are used in coolers that cannot be emptied," added Yadav.
